Comparison of IQOS and competitive GLO from British American Tobacco, how they work and which is better

The two largest tobacco companies are trying to introduce their own tobacco heating system as a future replacement for cancer-causing smoking. In what are they different in and can two markets survive next to each other?

Electronic cigarettes are the future of smoking. The first wave of interest aroused vaporizers filled with liquid fillings, the interest in them is rather declining. In some countries, they have encountered restrictions on legislation (eg Thailand is punishable by imprisonment) and elsewhere they are deliberately calling into question the health effects. Still, estimated sales are about $ 5 billion a year.

E-cigarette burns the tobacco industry

Although e-cigarettes produce a demonstrably minimum of toxic chemicals compared to cigarette burning and are significantly cheaper to use, but they are not error-free and do not give the user the same experience as smoking with burning. The warming up liquid fillings, the so-called liquids, is less convenient, requires daily care, and most smokers lack the resulting smoke experience. Producers have responded by increasing the volume of steam, which together with the aroma hundreds of flavors greatly disturbs some people.

The marijuana vaporizer comes to help

Especially for marijuana users, a group of enthusiasts has developed a solid particle vaporizer in Ireland, heating up crushed herbs or tobacco instead of liquid fillings in a small tank. By heating the container to a temperature of 250-350 ° C, aromatic substances or nicotine are released for inhalation. You can not only inhale drugs, but also medicinal herbs such as chamomile or mead.

After years of experimenting with cigarette manufacturers and finding alternative sources for more and more restricted cigarettes,  vaping of the tobacco smoke has emerged as a way of meeting stricter health standards and improving reputation without ending their business. Philip Morris International and British American Tobacco have made technology for everyday use worth billions of dollars and marketed IQOS and competitive GLO.

IQOS and GLO are very similar, and different only in technical design. Tobacco does not burn but heats special tobacco-filled cigarettes, which produce water vapor at 280-350 ° C and becomes a carrier of released nicotine from a tobacco mixture for inhalation. IQOS and GLO meet the main goals, according to studies, the smoke is up to 95% less harmful than burning, the smoker has a very similar experience, and the manufacturer will continue to earn the same price for cigarettes.

IQOS and GLO are up to 95% healthier and also forcing the smoker to buy cigarette refill. Everyone can be happy.

Tobacco heating is promoted as healthier smoking, but it seems as smoking regular tobacco products in most countries and it is subject to a similar excise duty. Both manufacturers have a long way to go before they will prove, that their products are healthier. That is all the more complicated, because of that their little credible after years of scamming about smoking.

The IQOS was first and it fights the competition

Philip Morris (PM) was with his IQOS on the market first. PM said he had invested up to $ 3 billion in his development and pushed him into an expensive massive campaign. Sales began with a huge success in Japan, later joined by Switzerland, Italy, Russia, and today it is sold in more than 24 countries, and others. The British government even recommended it as a substitute for cigarettes.

What is IQOS and how it works

IQOS bets on two separate devices, a separate charger serves as a case for a cigarette-shaped cigarette holder into what you can put HEETS fillings previously Marlboro or Parliament (a list of all flavors). HEETS contains a milled blend of tobacco filled with glycerin. You will push HEETS into the holder, where it is inflated on the blade and heated from the inside at 350°C. After putting out the cartridge, the Holder must be returned into the charger and after 4 minutes it is ready for further use.

GLO is late in sales, also in an experience

British American Tobacco (BAT) goes another way, experimenting with many variants. They have a regular iFuse electronic cigarette on the market, filled with glycerin and tobacco, but which (in the flood of Chinese competitors) could not succeed.

In a few markets, the GLO vaporizer has been produced, working on the same principle as IQOS. GLO is very similar to the larger electronic cigarette. KENT cartridges are also a mixture of tobacco and glycerin, looking like a slim cigarette, placed directly into the heater in the size of a cigarette box and heated from outside at 280°C. According to users, they have a less perfect steam release and a worse experience, on the other hand, GLO does not need to be cleaned as regularly as IQOS, where tobacco fragments remain.

GLO is big and heavy, longer lasts charged and don't need to be clean, but the smoke experience is better by IQOS

BAT has so far invested significantly less money in expanding GLO to the world.

The future of the cigarettes is smoke-free

The borrowed phrase from Philip Morris and the success of his IQOS scares the tobacco makers, so everyone is experimenting with replacements to save their future. Japan Tobacco develops its own Ploom Tech, Reynols American has the most successful e-cigarette Vuse (36% of the US market) and they are trying to improve their troubled Eclipse in co-operation with BAT under the name of Revo, in which cigarette, that will be burned only in the start where will be carbon peak. Philips Morris is preparing a similar product, we had already written about the future of its TEEPS - Philip Morris's most common electronic cigarette.
